On September 10, the Pete du Pont Freedom Foundation (PDFF) hosted the 2025 Freedom Award ceremony at the historic Hotel du Pont, bringing together Delaware’s business, civic, and philanthropic leaders for an evening of recognition, inspiration, and connection. This year’s event honored Robert L. Siegfried, Jr., CEO and Founder of The Siegfried Group, for his outstanding contributions to leadership, entrepreneurship, and community impact.
The Freedom Award is presented annually to an individual or organization that has championed innovative ideas leading to significant economic growth in the private sector. The award honors the legacy of Governor Pete du Pont, who led the state through fiscal challenges and into a period of vibrant economic development. Past award recipients include Incyte Corporation Chief Executive Officer Hervé Hoppenot, LabWare Founder Vance Kershner, MBNA Corporation, UD Horn Entrepreneurship Co-Founder Charlie Horn, and Endo Pharmaceuticals Founder Carol Ammon, among others.
A Night of Celebration
The event was filled with inspiring speeches, meaningful connections, and moments that captured the spirit of leadership and service.
The evening began with a celebratory reception, where attendees from across Delaware mingled and connected. Guests were welcomed by PDFF leadership, who shared reflections on Governor Pete du Pont’s enduring legacy of innovation, economic growth, and principled leadership.
As the program commenced, highlights included remarks from Board Chair Thère du Pont and an introduction by the honoree’s brother, Siegfried Group Vice President George Siegfried, underscoring Rob’s decades-long commitment to leadership development, entrepreneurship, and community impact.
Honoring Rob Siegfried
The award presentation highlighted both Rob’s accomplishments and his dedication to mentoring and empowering the next generation of leaders, reflecting PDFF’s mission to advance freedom, innovation, and community impact in Delaware.
Accepting the award, Rob reflected on America as “a great entrepreneurial experiment,” where freedom makes risk worth taking and dreams possible. He noted that entrepreneurship brings constant fear but also extraordinary opportunity, grounded in leadership and character.
Authentic leadership, he said, is about growth, humility, and inspiring others to act willingly. With patience, perseverance, and creativity, entrepreneurs can spark change that benefits customers, communities, and society. Crediting mentors who supported him, he closed with an inspiring call to action.
“To the dreamers, crystallize you’re dream, refine your strategy, and persevere.”
