The Pete du Pont Freedom Foundation is thrilled to announce that Incyte, represented by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Hervé Hoppenot, is the recipient of the nationally renowned 2024 Freedom Award. This honor recognizes Incyte’s groundbreaking contributions to biopharmaceutical research and its significant impact on global healthcare. Hoppenot will formally accept the award during the annual Pete du Pont Freedom Award ceremony at the Hotel DuPont on October 22nd. Tickets for this highly anticipated event are now on sale.

Founded in Wilmington, Delaware, in 2022, Incyte is a pioneering global biopharmaceutical company committed to developing innovative medicines for patients with unmet medical needs. With a strong focus on oncology, inflammation, and autoimmunity, Incyte has established operations across North America, Europe, and Asia, with an exceptional team of biologists and chemists working together to tackle new drug discovery and development to find meaningful solutions for patients by following the science.

“I am honored to be receiving the Pete du Pont Freedom Award on behalf of Incyte. Our mission to Solve On is driven by our relentless pursuit to find answers for patients by following the science,” said Hoppenot. “This award reaffirms our commitment to pioneering progress and recognizes the collective experience, passion, and perseverance of our entire team.”

Hervé Hoppenot joined Incyte in 2014 as President and CEO and was later appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2015. Under his leadership, Incyte has grown tremendously, tripling its clinical candidates and expanding its research into new therapeutic areas focusing on rare and often hard-to-treat diseases. Hoppenot’s strategic direction and leadership have been vital to Incyte’s success. In recognition of his contributions to Delaware’s business community, he was awarded as a DE222 Honoree by the Delaware Business Times in March 2024.

The Pete du Pont Freedom Award is a prestigious honor celebrating the enduring influence of Delaware’s 68th governor, Pete du Pont. During his time in office, du Pont’s commitment to fostering a healthy economy led to continued job growth and prosperity for the First State – leaving a legacy that continues to lift Delaware families and businesses. This award is presented annually to an individual or organization that has championed a successful idea that has led to economic growth or brought innovation to the private sector. The award ceremony celebrates our nation’s finest contributors to the entrepreneurial spirit.

Previous recipients of the Freedom Award include notable figures and organizations such as MBNA America, Charlie Horn, Carol Ammon, Mike Castle, and last year’s honoree, Vance Kershner, founder and CEO of LabWare, Inc. This celebration is also a vital fundraising effort to support the Foundation’s initiatives, including the Reinventing Delaware Program and the Equitable Entrepreneurial Ecosystem (E3).

This year’s award presentation will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2024, at the Hotel du Pont in Wilmington, DE, from 6:00-8:00 PM and includes hors d’oeuvres and an open bar. The Foundation also encourages guests to support local restaurants in the area by having dinner beforehand or after the event.
